A campaigning website - and a calendar that actually works
Dorset Natural Heritage is a community action group protecting the Parnham parklands and water meadows of Dorset - landscape of exceptional historical, cultural, and environmental value - from a proposed development of 82 luxury homes. The initiative coordinates volunteers, planning objections, and public engagement across Dorset's conservation and heritage community. Events are the lifeblood of the campaign: site visits, planning meetings, objection deadlines, and community gatherings.
The brief.
The group needed a lightweight WordPress site their volunteers could manage, with one feature that most calendar plugins get wrong: a genuinely practical event system. Attendees needed to be able to add events directly to Google Calendar, Outlook, or Microsoft Teams - or download an ICS file. EG built a custom WordPress calendar plugin with a clean admin interface: event name, date/time range, location, and contact details. The front end automatically splits events into Upcoming and Past. No bloated third-party plugin, no recurring subscription, no attack surface - just exactly what was needed.
